Welcome to our first Fionist quarterly update of 2024! In this post, we’ll get you up to date on what we’ve been up to in the first three months of this year and where we stand in terms of reaching the goals we set for ourselves on Rosh Hashana 5784. Feel free to click here to read our past periodic updates.
Personal goals update:
- Fiona and our daughter recently got back from a short mother-daughter trip to Romania.
- Finn got his camera back out and has been doing little people scenes almost every week.
- As always, we’re always seeking new ways to make each other feel appreciated.
- We hired someone to replace some bathroom floor tiles, fix our lighting system in the bathroom, and install new screens in our bedroom windows. We also repainted our accent wall ourselves.
FI goals update:
- In Q1 we saved 33% of our net income. Our total savings rate was 52%. This means that we now put more money into our investments than we spend on our living expenses.🎉
- As of March 2024, we are at 28% of our financial independence number.
- We made a pretty significant change to our investment portfolio in January. We sold all of our P2P loans and bought more ETFs instead.
- We earned 445 shekels from surveys and 2,742 shekels in dividends and interest this quarter. Since we sold our P2P loans in January and put all of that money into the stock market instead, our passive income this quarter is lower than last quarter’s. This is because we have no interest income for February or March. That’s okay with us though, since we reinvest all of our dividends anyway.
Other noteworthy highlights:
- Fiona started the gardening season by planting tomato, basil, and oregano seeds. Caring for the plants has become a family affair and brings us lots of joy. As we had many more seeds than plants we have room for, our daughter decided to sell the extra baby plants for for five shekels a piece in order to earn herself some spending money. We’re proud of her entrepreneurial spirit.
- Fiona participated in her first foraging walk. It was a lot of fun and we’re blown away by the knowledge that so much free food grows all around us!
- We voted on municipal voting day and then barbequed with extended family. Voting day is definitely one of our favorite holidays. 🙂
- We used BuyMe for one breakfast date and to buy some new clothes.
Thank you for following us on our Fionist journey. Your support means the world to us. Make sure to look out for our next update in the months to come. 🙂
