It’s been a while since we last shared a recipe on this blog. Here’s another quick meal that can be put together without much effort, especially after a long day at work or after the kids come home from school. Since including tuna balls in our post about the 10 easy and inexpensive meals we feed our family, we’ve had several people ask us for the recipe.
This is another meal that Finn’s mom z”l made on a nearly weekly basis while he was growing up.
All you need are these 5 ingredients:
- Two cans of tuna (in water)
- One egg
- A spoon or squirt of mayonnaise (skip this if using tuna in oil)
- Spices of your choice (We use granulated garlic and fresh basil and oregano from our kitchen garden)
- Breadcrumbs or crushed cornflakes

Preheat the oven to 200°C. Use the top and bottom setting if you have one.
Drain the tuna and mix it with egg, mayo, and spices. Roll into balls or patties. If the mixture seems too loose, add a sprinkle of breadcrumbs or crushed cornflakes. We make about 16 balls from this recipe.
Fill another bowl with breadcrumbs or crushed cornflakes. Cover each patty in crumbs. Bake for 20 minutes or until they are crisp.
We tend to serve this with french fries, pasta, or rice with cut up veggies on the side. Enjoy!
Just like our pizza or muffin recipes, this is something else your kids can help you make, or even make on their own depending on their ages. And of course, it’s a known fact that kids are more likely to eat something they made themselves. 😀
What other foods do you like to make with and for your kids?
