It’s been one year since we shared our 5783 Rosh Hashana goals with you. Hurrah! I bet you wonder how we’re doing. In this post, we’ll check in on last year’s new year’s resolutions. While we didn’t hit them all, we’re proud of ourselves for what we achieved. We’ll then end the post with our goals for 5784.
5783 goals
| Goals | Results |
|---|---|
| Make our significant other feel appreciated. | Yes! This is something ongoing and can’t be something we cross off a list and move on from. |
| Keep our savings rate the same or raise it to 35% of our net income. | We kept it at the same rate of 30%. |
| Reach 25% of our target FI number | Yes we did! However this was partially due to the changes in the USD-ILS exchange rate. |
| Increase our annnual charitable donations by 50%. | We increased it by 25%. |
| Do more day trips, one family vacation, one lady vacay with lady friends and one mancation with man friends (while the other holds down the fort). | Yes. We visited the US, had an anniversary day trip, several family day trips, and are planning to travel this fall. |
| Brush our dog’s teeth at least 3 times a week. | We tried. Did not always happen. Still working on this. |
| Digitally backup all of our documents and keep minimal documents as hard copies | Mostly yes. Almost done. |
| Make a will. | We’ll do it soon. We promise! For real this time. |
| Get ourselves a new bed frame. | No we did not. But we did get a new smart TV, fancy mixer, and robovac – all with BuyMe. |
Are you still with us? If so – mazal tov for making it this far! Brace yourselves for our 5784 goals. We will refer back to these throughout the year and let you know how we’re doing.
Our goals for this coming year:
- Raise our savings rate to 30% of our net income and over 50% of our total income. Total income includes all money deposited by our employers into any accounts in our name, including bank, pension and keren hishtalmut. This means that we will be putting more money into investments than spending every month.
- Reach 30% of our financial independence number.
- Earn 1,500 shekels per month in passive income from stock market dividends and interest from loans.
- Make our significant other feel appreciated. This one will always be on our list.
- Do at least two minor home improvement projects, such as replacing the light fixture we hate and and repainting our accent wall.
- GET. A. WILL.
- Have more one-on-one parent-child dates with each kid.
- Save better for the summer expense. We want to be better prepared this time around. Need to put a bit more away in advance.
- Finn wants to get back into photography, in particular his little people scenes.
- Fiona wants to improve her Arabic – both written and spoken. Once upon a time she read Al-Jazeera on a regular basis.
Thank you for following us on our Fionist journey and being our accountability buddies. Your support means the world to us! Make sure to look out for our next update in the months to come.
